Front Porch Friday: If I’d Known Then Session 4 — How to Avoid the Devoid

Fed up with the futility of some of the tasks in your life? God taught me a HUGE lesson about futility when I was right in the middle of doing one of the most futile tasks any mother of boys ever does. Can you guess what that might be? Come on over and I’ll tell you all about it on today’s Front Porch Friday!

Hi Laurie, sure glad you are never too old to learn. At 67 I am way past the 20s and 30s you referred to but I really appreciate your words today. I will now address the daily frustrations at work and home differently. My mantra will be “do it as unto the Lord”. Just saying the phrase changes my mindset and gives me peace. No longer will I be whining “why me Lord?” Thank you so much for redirecting my thought process. God Bless You!

You’re a few years ahead of me, Lynne, and your kind words encouraged me — I want to have the same attitude you do. I never want to get too old to learn new things from the Lord. Blessings to you, sister!

This is my first visit. Thank you so much for sharing that piece of wisdom from God’s word in a very personal way. I am one of those who needed to hear this, as I get caught up in the mundane and feel no joy in those tasks. Then I have my own little pity party! Today, I will prepare supper as if the King will be a guest in my home. May I remember those worrds from Colossians 3.

So happy to have you over for your first visit on the blog! Hope you come back often, and thanks for your honesty. As a former pity party hostess myself, I smiled when I read about your supper plans. Glo, Linda glo!

Hi Laurie! This hit the spot for me today. Especially with the frustrations of work. I work with kids before and after school and every single day, some kids just get to me, especially when they don’t listen, and it gets me frustrated. Sometimes I want to lose it, but I constantly remind myself to work for the Lord, not for anyone or anything.

I went to the store last night and was debating whether or not to buy prizes for my Kinder and 1st graders. I just kept thinking, they gave me a hard week, they don’t deserve it and my supervisor won’t pay me back. Then a sister reminded me, they are just kids and you are working for the Lord. It should not matter whether I get paid back or not as well because what i do and what I give, the Lord will bless me.

I have learned to not get so frustrated with my job and the kids and work to serve the Lord.

    Thanks Laurie!

Thank you, Jackey. Those kids are so blessed to have a teacher like you. How I thank the Lord for the eternal way He is using you in their lives. Love ya, sister, and always love hearing from you!

Laurie, I am enjoying your Front Porch Friday’s so much!!! Today you really touched on something very meaniful to me. I also remember those days in my 30’s when two little boys could destroy the house in just minutes (bathroom included). I’m dealing with a few “devoids” right now and your teaching today is just what I needed. I’ll remember what you said the next time these things come around and do them as unto the Lord. Makes for a muich happier day!!. Sammie

Girl, I know you, and you had a house FULL of kids! And now, with grandkids, your tribe has grown considerably. But you’re right, no matter what season we’re in, we’re always going to have to deal with the “devoids. So happy to know you’re porch-sittin’ with me on Fridays, Sammie. I love you AND your sweet family!

Thanks, Sherlyn! Love what you said about Col. 3:23 breeding “excellence.” And He who gave His best for us, deserves our best, doesn’t He? Thrilled to hear you’re enjoying Front Porch Fridays, sister. Love to you!

Boy oh Boy did I need to hear this. I am one that just really dislikes housework, and I procrastinate and grumble that I am the only one doing it, so if no one else cares why should I? Etc etc. The Lord cares!
Thank you, Laurie. I am loving your Front Porch Friday series. Thank you for all that you do!

I love Front Porch Friday, too, and reading comments like yours encourages me so much. Yes, the Lord cares about all of the mundane duties in our lives. And aren’t you glad that what we do for Him (even housework and cleaning potties) matters to Him. Makes all the difference in the world to us housekeepers, doesn’t it? Love!

Thanks Laurie for today’s message. I agree with Lynne. I am in my 60’s, but find I need this message so much. I pray I will take it to heart…beginning right now as I have a plate full of tasks that seem to be devoid of reward.
Front Porch Fridays are wonderful. I will miss than after next week.
God bless you and priority Ministries. Janet

Thank you for sharing this wisdom. I need to remember that whatever I do is to honor the Lord. Housework is something that I procrastinate. Now I’ll remember that when I do housework I am working for the Lord. The best CEO : )
