Front Porch Friday: 7 Deadly Sins of Women — Sin #4

Front Porch Friday logoIt’s a childish sin that pouts when others  prosper — it’s deadly sin #4. And on today’s Front Porch Friday, we’ll not only expose it, we’ll meet some New Testament examples who can show us how to beat it. See you on the porch!

Your sister,

Laurie-sig-300dpiOkay, girls, you’ve heard how I’ve struggled with this sin, now it’s your turn. Post a comment, and let’s confess our sins one to another. 🙂  Love you!

    Laurie,
It’s a blessing to get your teaching each week. It’s like sitting right there on the porch with you! Thank you!

My greatest struggle with covetousness is desiring to have a Christian family. In growing up my Dad was very detached from us though he lived with us, and I always longed for a “real family.” Our children, and granbabies are scattered, and I miss having them be part of our lives.

Your honesty has touched my heart deeply, Ginny. And I want to encourage you, sweet friend, that long-distance grandparenting can be very effective even though I know it’s hard. My own sons never lived near their grandparents, but they love them to pieces and know that their grandparents feel exactly the same way about them. Love to you!

I could not hear a lot of what you said because of the wind. Can you redo this?

I am so sorry, Dawn. I can’t re-do the video, but I am investigating some new equipment that will help with the occasional wind problems. Thanks for your patience.

We love you Laurie and we are right there on the porch with you taking in your teaching. Sometimes I wish I was right there drinking sweet tea with you so I could hear you first hand and better. I know the timing of your busy day probably puts you on that porch in the afternoon-but it is really windy! God Bless you and your ministry…we aren’t gonna miss a word of your Fridays…

Thanks for your sweet words of encouragement, Pat. I do usually videotape in the afternoons, and it’s been VERY windy here in Houston this past month. I’m thinking that it’s time to retire my basic camera and replace it with something a little more high-tech . . . and I’m a low-tech kinda girl. 🙂

Laurie, thank you for speaking the truth in love & reminding us to be happy & rejoice with “others” when they receive a blessing. Its not always about us! Most of the time its “Other’s Day”!
Thank you for perservering thru the wind! The message was loud & clear.
    Love you!

I agree with Christy, your message was loud and clear despite the wind although if it could be improved that would be a blessing. I confess that I am in the middle of my own pity party. Your message snapped me to attention. It’s not about me. I want to rejoice with others and glorify God. Thank you for speaking the truth.

Laurie, your message certainly did convict me. I am a mom of a severely, special needs child and 2 other little ones, no breaks/vacations in sight and everytime I hear my friends about their vacations, cruises they take; I have an internal fit! Now I know and I need to catch myself, repent and be happy for them.

I really enjoy your videos ~ wind and all 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to do these – I look forward to each and every one of them. I am learning and becoming aware of so many things from your Friday chats ~ you are a wonderful teacher/speaker and friend on the porch! No doubt you will do great tonight teaching the Warrior Princess series!

Thank you for this video on selfishness. I never thought of it in those terms but now I will be careful what I think and express. Since God is in control of our lives we should be happy with the things/blessings he’s given us.

Today I listened to this segment for the second time. As a long-time self-employed family, I have battled throughout with the balancing act of using our income wisely, yet giving in full faith. Self-employed folks know it’s usually feast or famine and you must be prepared for the lean times. I know the Lord expects me to use good judgment and be a good steward, but I fear my faith has suffered over my “control” of savings for the rainy day. I have learned to give up control over so many things in my life – yes, I was/am? a control freak! – yet, I know there is room for improvement in giving to others. Thank you for these good lessons!
