What God is Teaching Me About Prayer

woman praying600x400

God is doing a new work in my prayer life. Or, I should say: God is doing a new work in my previously stale, stagnant prayer life because that would be far more accurate.

Quite frankly, over the past few months my prayer life was devolving into a boring rut of rote requests. And even worse, I was praying all the right words for all the wrong reasons. For instance:

  1. I was praying just to check praying off my spiritual to do list.
  2. I was praying with fully engaged mouth (I was never at a loss for words) and a fully disengaged heart.

But the biggest problem I was experiencing in my prayer life was that I didn’t know how to fix it.

And that’s when God showed up. He’s good like that. And gracious. And merciful. And loving. And patient. And I could go on and on about how sweet God is, but I just want to assure you, precious sister, that if your prayer life is languishing, God is ready, willing, and able to breathe new life into it just like He’s done for me.

So click play, and I’ll share two things God is using to rebuild, renew, and revive my prayer life that I know He can use in yours. See you on the porch!

I’ve confessed my sins to you, now it’s your turn. Post a comment and let me know what’s going on in your prayer life!

Just exactly what I am needing in my spiritual walk right now. Laurie you started talking and I started weeping. Thank you so much for your honesty and willingness to help us grow closer to God. Looking forward to Prayer revival.

Thank you for this! I went through a “mini-revival” a couple of years ago when I felt God whisper to me that a lot of change was going to happen in my life. I’ve written to you about this before. However, I have slipped a bit. I like the idea of listening and writing down God’s response to my prayers. I am encouraged to pray more thoughtfully. Blessings as you continue this journey! I can’t wait to hear what I’ve been missing!

It is Sunday afternoon and I am getting caught up on e-mails. Just watched this Front Porch Friday on prayer. It is so good! Laurie, you are so precious! God bless you and your work! You gave us excellent suggestions/ideas about our prayer life. One problem I have is that there are so many people to pray for that I don’t take time to listen! I will take your suggestion and practice listening! I do have a journal but do not use it regularly. Will practice doing that too! Thank you for your insights about praying! And I will pray for you and your ministry!

    HUGS!

thank you Laurie for this post .For time now my prayer life has become more than stagnant basically dead .Whenever I “pray” I know what exactly what I’m going to say and I avoid those areas that the holy spirit wants to talk about in my heart .Another thing I have become sooo used to listening to teachings etc that I cant have time with God just by myself .I cant even recall the time prayer was good ,now its just a chore .I need Revival!!!!!

Hi Laurie, Thank You so much for sharing. I’ve been going through the stagnant stale life of prayer. My BIGGEST issue was stressing to hear the voice of the Father. That has been my biggest challenge, to know that I know I hear His voice clearly and not my own, or any other voice.
When I journal, I second guess at times because I’m thinking like “What?” Did I just say that or is that really YOU, Holy Spirit. I have some overcoming to do.
    Again, Thank You

I love you too girl! I have been languishing lately in my prayer life, and I needed something but I didn’t know what. I asked God, and ‘da’ He knew 🙂 and already had the answer ready. I needed to hear this teaching from you. I can’t believe that I can love and learn from someone on a computer, at a depth more personal than in my bible studies at church. Truly God can’t be put into a box.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can’t wait to chew on this, and listen again for God’s precious voice. In his Presence is fullness of Joy. So thankful for the Body of Christ, for big sisters in the Lord, for the Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts!!! Bless you

Please be praying for us (Christie & Julie) as tomorrow Sunday, at 4 pm Pacific Time, we will be starting Beauty by the book for Teens. We have six girls signed up and we are so excited! We have a room full of twinkle lights and bean bag chairs with lots of comfy blankets all set up for God to work! Thank you!

Laurie, I loved your amazing sharing thoughts. I want to hear the voice of the Father. That has been my biggest challenge, to know that I know I hear His holy voice clearly. Thanks

They have awesome stuff there!! Loads of gems, both
great and small. There are humongous amethysts and slabs of fossils!
Then there are bags of crystals, shark’s teeth, amethysts, and other stones for $12.
You can also buy necklaces, those crystal jewelry boxes
that are shaped like animals, and these statues made from scraps of metal that this artist created.

Never went into the store before because there are lots of stores to see
in The Venetian and it didn’t catch our eye.
But this time when they displayed one of the metal statues by the central
area where there’s usually performances there, we saw it in the store and it peaked
our interest. You can spend hours looking at this stuff.
I want to go back. https://tvanimemuryoudouga.com

[…] As I told you last week, God has been doing a new work in my life – specifically, in my prayer life. He is teaching me how to pray in new ways. And as I have been praying this week, He is encouraging me to pray earnestly – which I used to think meant bowing my head and worrying with my eyes closed. […]
