The Best Trip to Walmart Ever

flickr: mjb84

No Front Porch Friday video today. I’m sick. Not sick-as-a-dog sick, just sick as in I can’t do a Front Porch Friday video without hacking and coughing and making you feel sick sick. It’s just a cold. But it’s bad enough that my beloved Bill has enacted a no-kissing law until my cold is history. Thank you for your pity.

Soooo, instead of a video, I’m going to share some good news with you today. Some really good news, and here it is: Today, my sweet mother is going to (drumroll): WALMART! OK, I know that last sentence may sound totally underwhelming, but I can assure you that it is NOT.

You see, last month I asked you to pray for my mother who has been suffering from a severe case of shingles and related complications for the past 6 months. And glory to God, you did (thank you, thank you). Well, last night, Mother called to let me know that she’s had two good days AND nights in a row. Plus, she’s beginning to regain her appetite. Girl, God is continuing to answer your prayers for my mother, and my grateful heart to the Lord and to you is soaring!

But there’s more: I had also asked you to pray for my Daddy who has been such a sweetheart and a trooper during Mother’s illness but has also been deeply disheartened and hurt to see her in so much pain. So yesterday, when Mother told Daddy that she thought she was feeling well enough to go to Walmart today – but that he would have to push the cart, of course – this is what he said: “Honey, even if you end up having to get into that cart and I have to push you, I am so happy!” Happy Daddy. More answered prayer!

So today, precious sister, as you go about your daily routine – driving to and from work, running errands, and doing your same-old-usual thing – I want you to know that because of your prayers and God’s power, my mother and daddy are enjoying a little slice of their same-old-usual-routine and their very best trip to Walmart EVER.

As for me, I’m still coughing. And I’m still hacking. And I’m still under that awful kissing ban. But I want you to know that I’m doing my same-old-usual routine today thanking God for you, smiling every time I think about my parents at Walmart, and praying, “Lord, don’t ever let me complain about having to go to Walmart again.”

Your hacking, coughing, grinning, and very grateful sister,

Love to hear these humbling stories that bring us down to reality and help us remember to appreciate the little things in life. I am so glad all us girls banned together in prayer, to help your mama and daddy have some normalcy after months of difficulty.
I hope you feel better soon, and you get your kisses back. Doesnt he know that kisses make everything better@?@!?! lol

Laurie, so happy for the good report…praise the Lord!!! One of my favorite sayings is “the best kind of day is an uneventful one.” As for the kissing ban…Bill just doesn’t want to get sick again. Remember your quote a few months ago…”he loves me, he loves me lots.” Get better soon! Love you.

Laurie, such great news I am so happy she is feeling better. I can just hear your sweet Daddy offering to push her in the cart. I have been listening to him sing, whistle ,and talk for so many years. I love bragging to people that his precious daughter is my friend and inspiration and his son-in law is my music director. I am so grateful God brought ya’ll to Houston. Love you and hope you are better soon.

Hey girl….called & left you a message to keep resting to “””get over””” this ole nasty stuff …….hope you’re well on the road to “over it”….Here lately seems my tech stuff has been messing up…..stuff stuck in cyberspace?? Thankfully, there’s still the old fashioned phone way…(;~)
All Glory to God for hearing our hearts crying out to Him…..We do need to continue to pray tho as I’ve heard, many times over, that shingles OR the pain of them can last up to & over a year. So will continue to pray Gods mighty & healing hand over her. (and you too so “”the ban”” will be lifted…) (;~) Lol in Christ……member. I’m just steps away if you need me.

What wonderful news! Thank you Jesus for answered prayer! Now to pray for your head cold. I understand about that. I’ve been battling the same thing for a week now.
When you first posted your prayer request about your Mom and Dad, I replied about remembering them and being in their home and knowing your brothers through church many years ago. You replied back asking what church and I don’t think I ever got back to you. It was Glenview Baptist. I started going there in 1983 and went there up until 1986. Fun, precious memories!
