My Favorite Quiet Time Tool & Tips

Today on the porch, I’m sharing my favorite quiet time tool and a few super practical tips that I hope will enrich your own quiet time. If you’ve known me for a while, you’ve probably already guessed what my favorite quiet time tool is. But today I’ll show you how I use it to meet with the Lord each day.

And just in case you’re wondering, a “quiet time” is simply time alone with God in His Word and in prayer — preferably daily but definitely consistently. It is one of The Basic Necessities for every Christian.

You cannot get to know someone unless you spend time with them, and you cannot get to know God unless you spend time with Him. Reminds me of one of my favorite Bible passages…

“Whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Philippians 3:7-8 NASB

So click play, sister, and let’s enjoy some porch time together!

P. S. What are your favorite quiet time tools and tips? Post a comment and share ’em with me. XXXs

P.P.S. I highly encourage you to check out Emily Ryan’s fantastic (and fun) book Guilt-Free Quiet Times: Exposing the Top Ten Myths about Your Time with God. You will love it!

    Miss Laurie,
I love that idea of the One Year Bible. I have so many Bibles?! I have the Women’s Devotional (which has traveled the United States with me for years), My Daddy’s (He was a Messianic Jew), My Mom’s King James, and the one my daughter bought me in giant edition. I try to read them all?! I use the kindle every morning at 4am which my time alone and I go about writing to same notes so each one is the same so my girls don’t feel left out I go to be with Jesus (I’m busy!). I loved Front Porch Friday! Maybe I should buy 3 books for the girls then they can duke it out for grandma and granddaddy’s on their own?! You’re such a precious blessing to me, I pray for you! Paula

You are too cute, Paula! And I think you’d love the One Year Bible. But no matter what Bible you pass down to your girls, I know they will treasure it.Thanks for being on the porch with me each week. You are a blessing. Love!

I’m still reading through my One Year Bible for women, Laurie, and loving it!!

I definitely agree with all your tips! Also love the verse you posted from Philippians, “. . . I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” I never thought to pair that verse with the benefits of spending time with the Lord. Love your Spirit-filled insight!

Something I’ve found to be very helpful when you’re tired and just plain can’t concentrate, or maybe you’re even feeling like you’re not benefiting from anything you’re reading: KEEP READING ANYWAY! I’ve found that when I force myself to keep reading during those times, what I’ve read comes back to me throughout the day without me even trying to remember what I’ve read. I don’t know why but it gets imprinted on your mind, even when you think you’re not getting anything out of it. And since our minds are always thinking about something, what could be better than thinking God’s Word!

You agree with me and I agree with you, Rose. 🙂 Your comment made me want to add a #7 to my tip list: Keep reading anyway! Rose, you’re a woman after God’s own heart. Love!
